Tere Estrada is a name that invites to musical enjoyment. Composer, singer, guitar player, sociologist and writer native of Mexico City. She has practically run all Mexico’s venues since late eighties. As a soloist or with bands as Follaje, Entenados del Enjambre, Edén Subterráneo and Esquina Bajan, Tere has distinguished herself by the passion showed in each of her performances and the profesionalism in her job.
She’s an artist that in the musical ground fusions genres as blues, rock, jazz and latin rhythms. Her way of performing is close to guitarist Bonnie Raitt, though her singing style reminds us to the school of the great jazz singers. Her lyrics talk about eroticism, solitude and sexual harassment. She sings to the great city and its characters.
Tere studied at The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences from the Autonomous National University of Mexico. She holds a B.A in sociology and wrote a thesis entitled “Language and identity in the Mexican rock 1985-1990.”
In 2001 she presented the first edition of Sirenas al ataque (Sirens on the attack. History of Mexican women rockers) an exhaustive research published by the Mexican Institute for the Youth. In 2008 apperead the second edition with Oceano Publishing. Tere has written about rock and culture in the newspapers Reforma and El Financiero and in the supplement Triple Jornada. In 2004 with Julia Palacios wrote the article “A contra corriente: A History of Women Rockers in Mexico” that’s part of the anthology Rockin’ Las Americas published by Pittsburgh University Press.
She has six records: Azul transitando en violeta (Blue transiting to violet), Túneles desiertos (Deserted Tunnels), Viaje al centro de tu ser (Trip to the center of your being), Encuentros cercanos conmigo (Close Encounters with myself), Lotería de pasiones (Lottery of passions) and En Vivo (Life). She has participated in multiple festivals, cultural centers, universities, and alternative forums in USA, Norway, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Denmark and Germany.
